Hallsville Fall Academic Tournament VI (10/27/2018)

Post by Hallsville Coach »

Hallsville is pleased to announce the sixth annual Hallsville Fall Academic Tournament to be held October 27th, 2018. This tournament will be run in the twenty tossup/bonus format on NAQT IS-177. Since this tournament will be held on a NAQT set, this will be an opportunity for you to qualify early in the season for NAQT's HSNCT in Atlanta, GA on May 24-26, 2019 or NAQT's SSNCT in Rosemont, IL on May 3-5, 2019 (provided that you qualify as a small school under NAQT's definition https://www.naqt.com/ssnct/qualification.jsp). Games consist of twenty tossups worth ten points each followed by non-rebounding bonuses worth up to thirty points. Tossups will feature "powers" (additional points awarded for correct buzzes very early in the question) but no penalty for an incorrect early buzz (no negs). We have removed the "negs" to encourage younger players to buzz without the fear of a penalty, so we hope that you will not only want to bring your varsity team to the tournament but your JV teams as well.
We anticipate using two full round robins in the morning and afternoon with an advantaged final to decide the champion depending on the number of teams registered.
We will also be limiting teams to a maximum of six players. But you may sign up as many teams as you wish. We are initially capping the field at 24 but are hoping to expand to 36 this year contingent on acquiring enough tournament personnel to host a larger field but still ensure a quality tournament.

Fees:
base fee (first team from each school): $70
second or subsequent teams: $65
travel discount (100 miles or more one way): -$5 per school
buzzer discount (must work for eight players; limit two per school): -$5

To register, please e-mail me at sallen@hallsville.org to reserve your spot. We look forward to seeing you in October.

The tournament went off without a hitch on Saturday. At the end of round 10, Hickman A had cleared the field and won the tournament championship. Moberly finished in second place followed by NKC and Helias A. Stats will be posted shortly.

I'd like to thank all of the teams and coaches for attending our Fall Tournament last Saturday. This was our sixth year of hosting it and our players thoroughly enjoy working with the other teams and coaches to put on this event every year. I'd also like to thank all of the amazing moderators that we had that volunteered: Michael Powers, Dustin Bax, Glen Decker, Logan Durk, Joel Adams, Drayton Bates, Lisa McClary, Louis Schnoebelen, Colton Hough, Lori Lockwood, Kathy Brandon, Peter Bonello, Jon Deering and Josh Malecki. You guys made my job very easy on Saturday.
We look forward to seeing everyone again next year (if you aren't already signed up for our February tournament) and again we will have fresh-baked chocolate chip cookies for the staff. Once again, thank you for attending!

The stats for the tournament are listed below:
