Jefferson City High School tournament - 11/1/14

Post by Jason Loy »

Hello coaches,

Jefferson City High School will be hosting a high school academic tournament on November 1, 2014 using a question set written by the University of Maryland. Shelly Kiesling will be serving as the tournament director.

Each round will consist of 20 tossup questions with 20 3-part bonuses should a team answer a tossup correctly. Bonuses will rebound. The set follows the following distribution per round:

4/4 Literature (at least 1/1 each American, British, European, .5/.5 one more of the above, .5/.5 World)
4/4 Science (1/1 biology, 1/1 chemistry, 1/1 physics, 1/1 other science, with a heavy focus on math)
4/4 History (1/1 American, 2/2 European/British/Ancient, 1/1 World, Canadian/Australian where appropriate in context)
2.5/2.5 Religion, Myth, Philosophy (1/1 each Religion and Myth, .5/.5 Philosophy)
2.5/2.5 Fine Arts (1/1 Visual and 1/1 Auditory guaranteed per packet, .5/.5 one more of the above)
.5/.5 Social Science
.5/.5 Miscellaneous and Mixed
1/1 Geography/Current Events (approx. .66/.66 Geo, .33/.33 CE)
1/1 Pop Culture

Since this is a regular difficulty question set, there will be no eligibility restrictions as there were for last year's tournament. Also, a single team can have no more than six players. If you have more than six players, please do not hesitate to sign up a second or even third team!

Fee Structure:

First team from a school: $60
Every subsequent team from a school: $50
Buzzer Discount: $5 per system

Discounts for bringing a staffer or staffers will be negotiated on a case-by-case basis.

There will be a field cap of 18 teams at this tournament.

To register, please email both me, Jason Loy, at jloy@tuscumbialions.k12.mo.us and Shelly Kiesling at shelly.kiesling@jcschools.us with the number of teams and buzzer systems you plan on bringing.

We hope to see you on November 1!

Looking forward to this tournament tomorrow. Traffic heads-up: district semifinal in football will be underway in the afternoon between Helias and Moberly, at Adkins Stadium next to the high school.

The playoff standings page is incomplete for some reason, though I just noticed that the scores are on the scoreboard page, so all of the data is actually there. Any idea what the extra Pilot Grove-Helias A game in round 9 is?
