CAAT III on November 21, 2015

Post by CentraliaCoach »

Centralia High School is pleased to announce that we will be hosting the Third Annual Centralia Autumn Academic Tournament on Saturday, November 21, 2015 at Centralia High School in Centralia, MO. We will be limiting the roster size to six players per team, but we encourage you to bring multiple teams to maximize playing time for all of your players.

This tournament is a regular difficulty event that plans to use CALI question set. Information about the composition of the set can be found here http://www.hsquizbowl.org/forums/viewto ... 09&t=17412

Games will consist of 20 tossups with three-part, non-rebounding bonuses. There will be 15-point "powers" for correct answers given at an early enough point in the question. There will also be five-point penalties for the first incorrect interrupt of a question ("negs").

The exact schedule for the tournament will depend on the final field size, but teams should expect to be divided into preliminary pools that will each play a round robin, followed by a re-bracketing into championship and consolation pools. If the field fills, all teams should expect to play 10 games, ending around 4:00, with any necessary finals and tiebreakers following.

Pricing for this tournament is:
• First team from a school: $70
• Subsequent teams: $60 each
• Experienced moderator: -$20 (we will have to approve the moderator before we give the discount, so email the host about this before bringing your moderator to the tournament)
• Buzzer discount: -$5 for each fully-functional buzzer system, maximum of two (must work for 8 players to receive the discount)

The field is limited to the first 18 teams to register. If the field fills, additional teams will be placed on a waitlist; if a registered team drops, waitlisted teams will be contacted in the order registration requests were received to fill the available spots.

To register, email me (ryan.kennedy@catnet.gen.mo.us) with the number of teams you plan to bring and any discounts you will be using. Please note that you are not officially registered until you receive an email confirming that your registration was received and accepted.

We this tournament has been certified Platinum by PACE, meaning that the top 25% of the field will qualify for the PACE National Scholastics Championship to be held at the Hyatt Regency O'Hare in Chicago on June 4-5, 2016.

We hope to see your teams in Centralia on November 21st. If you have any questions, please let me know.

We've had some field fluctuations and are working on refilling.

Also, the announcement has been edited to mention our PACE Platinum Certification.

Hannibal A won the first game of an advantaged final over Washington A to win this tournament. Rock Bridge A took third. When I'm not on a cell phone, I'll post stats and proper thank you's.

Database Entry:
http://www.hsquizbowl.org/db/tournaments/3117/

All stats there except for round reports. Having issues there.

Congratulations to Hannibal for their incredible run today and to all of the teams who also qualified for the PACE NSC: Washington A, Rock Bridge A, Hallsville A, and Washington B.

My heartfelt appreciation for all who volunteered to help this tournament run smoothly: Sean Phillips, Kyle Hill, Stephanie Hull, and Seth Woods; the teams that provided workers like Greg Irwin, Logan Hansen, and David Dennis; and my team, my assistant coach, and my wife, all of whom were totally necessary in making this tournament possible.

I hope everybody had a great experience and is looking forward to next fall. Good luck this season!

It was an honor and privilege to have worked on this fine staff and for the unsung but great TD that is Mr. Ryan Kennedy. This was truly a wonderful day of quizbowl where I got to see many of our state's best and brightest strut their stuff. Kudos all around y'all!
