2nd Annual CIS Winter Invitational January 13, 2018

Post by Lisa McClary »

Hello coaches,

I am pleased to announce that Columbia Independent School will be hosting a high school academic quiz bowl tournament on Saturday, January 13, 2018. We will be using NAQT's IS-168 question set. This set is also being used at Clever, Eureka, Poplar Bluff, Smithville, and the Archdiocesan Athletic Association (AAA) conference meet; if you are attending the CIS tournament, you may not attend any of the other tournaments listed. The limit on team size is six. Schools may register multiple teams. Each game consists of twenty tossups and up to twenty three-part, thirty point rebounding bonuses. There will be powers, but no negs. The field will initially be capped at 18 teams, and registrations will be taken on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Entry fees are as follows:

First team from each school: $65
Second and subsequent teams from each school: $60
Providing a fully functioning buzzer system: -$5 per system
Travel discount (at least 100 miles each way): -$10 per team
Providing a trained scorekeeper: $-5 per scorekeeper (if needed)
Providing an experienced moderator: negotiated on an individual basis

All teams will play at least eight games regardless of performance; the exact format of the tournament will be decided once the field is set. Teams are expected to stay for the duration of the tournament so we can offer all teams their guaranteed number of games.

To register, please email Lisa McClary (mcclaryl@cislions.org) with the number of teams, buzzer systems, and scorekeepers/moderators that you plan to bring.

Please don't hesitate to email with any questions you may have, and I look forward to receiving your registrations. See you in January!

Thank you,

Lisa McClary
Tournament Director

Stats for this tournament are here: http://www.hsquizbowl.org/db/tournaments/4893/.

Hallsville won this tournament, led by overall leading scorer Samuel Lockwood. Hickman A, anchored by second place scorer Veer Sangha, defeated Moberly in the second-place game (in overtime!) to take second overall. Hickman B, Pilot Grove A, and Pleasant Hill A rounded out the top bracket.

Thanks to tournament director Lisa McClary and all of her staff for making this tournament a success!
