2017-18 CONFERENCE TOURNAMENTS

Post by L-Town Expatriate »

This thread will list conference tournaments for the 2017-18 season. There are over 70 activities conferences in the state; a string of posts that will follow, listing conferences in alphabetical order. This information is far from complete (and perhaps far from accurate), with schools shifting conferences, adding/dropping programs, and of course who's reading what. To the surprise of few, some of these conferences will have no tournament in place let alone teams competing. (Also, some of these conferences might not have MSHSAA members.) Corrections and information are welcome.

Conferences will be grouped in quote form:
Generic Missouri Conference wrote:Schools with teams (Schools without teams or not competing)
Date of tournament (range/series of dates if duals)
Host or organizer of tournament
Format: MSHSAA, National, other; whether tournament or duals
Question provider:
Additionally, if a thread is started where results are posted/discussed, I will include a link.

Here goes…

The Jefferson County Conference is Festus, Herculaneum, Crystal City, Jefferson R-7, Valley Park, and De Soto. It's MSHSAA format with NAQT questions. It will be hosted at Valley Park on February 20th this year.

Here's the GAC results which by the way, this was a wonderful event to staff and I think more conferences should do this. It was a full round robin with an advantaged final and we were done by 2:30. We could have been done earlier but Orchard Farm is far away from any food option thus necessitating a long lunch break.

Mid-State wrote:

Host/Organizer:
Format: MSHSAA
Question Provider:
Leeton is no longer a member of the Mid-State Conference as of this school year. They were replaced by Heartland Christian (Belton).

Mid-State Conference:
Calhoun, Chilhowee, Heartland Christian, Kingsville
Date: April 7th, 2018
Host/Organizer: Calhoun
Format: MSHSAA
Question Provider: NAQT - 2017/2018 Missouri Conference Set A and Set B

Results:
1) Heartland Christian (3-0), total points scored: 1,110
2) Kingsville (3-1), total points: 610
3) Calhoun (1-3), total points: 530
4) Chilhowee (0-3), total points: 170

This tournament was round robin. At the lunch break, Heartland was undefeated, Chilhowee winless. Calhoun vs. Kingsville game in round robin portion went into overtime, Kingsville won 140-130. Chilhowee elected to go home, they did not participate in playoff portion of tournament. They would have been the 4 seed and would have played Heartland. In the 2 seed (Kingsville) vs. 3 seed (Calhoun) game, it was tied at the end of regulation, just like in the round robin portion of the tournament. The result was the same, Kingsville won, but the final score this time was 180-170. (Strangely, both overtime games needed exactly 6 sudden death toss up questions to determine a winner!) Kingsville elected to not play Heartland Christian in the championship match, and it was agreed based on preliminary games to award the Mid-State Conference Scholar Bowl Championship to Heartland Christian.

Here are results from West Central Conference 2018 (they haven't been uploaded to NAQT yet so I thought it might be helpful).
Nevada won over all 5-0, followed by Smith Cotton 4-1.
Round One: Nevada 450-Smith-Cotton 240; St. Pius 370-St. Michael 70; Warrensburg 370-Center 190.
Round Two: Smith-Cotton 420-Center 160; Nevada 380-St. Pius 240; St. Michael 280-Warrensburg 240.
Round Three: Smith-Cotton 470-St. Michael 110; St Pius 340-Warrensburg 330; Nevada 630-90.
Round Four: Nevada 480-Warrensburg 230; St. Michael 290-Center 200; Smith-Cotton 410-St. Pius 280.
Round Five: St. Pius 310-Center 120;Nevada 540-St. Michael 110; Smith-Cotton 320-Warrensburg 300.

As for individuals, Warrensburg had #1, Nevada had #2, 4, and 6, Smith Cotton had #3, and St. Pius had #5.
