World Quest

Post by FZW Coach »

This was the 8th year this event has been held. It is basically a trivia night where the subjects range from art to world geography to world history. Each team consists of 4 players. There are 7 rounds of 10 questions each. The winning team advances to Washington, D.C. to play in the national competition. The 2nd place team wins $500; the 3rd place team wins $250. 28 high schools from the St. Louis metro area competed at this event.

Top Teams

1. FZW 64
2. Ladue 63
3. Villa Duchesne 61
Lindbergh 61

If you have any advice on how we can prepare for the national competition, we would love to hear it. This was the first year that any of our current players competed at this event.

Congratulations! You've probably Googled up "world quest" and found a bunch of samples from local events around the country already. But the local event in New York City puts out a resource guide that you can download here:

http://www.fpa.org/info-url4715/info-ur ... _id=910814

The study guide for Nationals is here and seems to include "world music", pandemics and the 2010 World Cup.

The samples I have seen indicate huge amounts of current events, including pictures of people/locations often in the news (Ahmadinejad, Karzai, maybe the Ft. Hood gunman, etc.) So look at the NY Times website regularly.

best, Bryce

This sounds really cool. Too bad nothing like this is held in the Kansas City area (I think there is a science day competition around here but I'm not sure) Anyway, congratulations to you and your team.

Also I think there is in fact a Kansas City Worldquest, or there was in 2007.

Beat me to the punch Charlie

I was going to say there is a chapter of this organization in Kansas City. They hosted a competition in 2007?

No idea. In my opinion it's pretty lame.

Are you suggesting that this be moved to the General or Miscellaneous sections?

They do the Kansas City area competition at William Jewell. It's sponsored by the International Relations Council in Kansas City. The chair of our Poli Sci department is involved with it somehow.

I would've gone, but the teacher that sponsors our team didn't inform me of it. >_>
