QUARK at Truman State-9/29/12

Post by Mickey0R0urke »

JMAC the Chef wrote:We at Truman State are pleased to announce we will be mirroring Michigan's QUARK tournament Saturday September 29th. If you have any questions about our particular site, please feel free to email me at jwm7876@truman.edu
Location
The address of the university is 100 E Normal, Kirksville MO, 63501. Parking and hotel accommodations are plentiful.
Food: There are various options for breakfast and lunch on and off campus. We will be taking payment at the tournament or after, if you need some additional time to process it through your university's reimbursement system. If you are going to pay with checks, please make it out to "Academic Competition Organization."

The tournament will be taking place in Baldwin Hall-location No. 9 on this map (this is where we've held ACF Fall for the past 2 years). We'll be meeting in Baldwin 176 for the morning meeting.

Note: There is a parking lot right across the street from Baldwin Hall. I would recommend using that one. If you're coming from Columbia, you turn left onto S Franklin from I-63 and then turn right at the stop light on E Patterson. Baldwin Hall is the second building on the left after you turn there.

(Taken from the announcement made by Libo)
Distribution (per round):

4/4 Literature
4/4 History
4/4 Science
3/3 Art (1/1 Painting, 1/1 Music, 1/1 Other Arts)
3/3 RMP (1/1 each)
1/1 SS
1/1 Geo/CE/Academic Other (with at least 0/1 or 1/0 being Geo)

There will not be trash at this tournament. We might, however, write a trash tossup per round to be played for the amusement of the teams at the host's discretion.

Pricing (taken from a post below)
Base Fee: $120
Buzzer Discount: -$10
Travel Discount: -$5 per 100 miles traveled one way
Staffer Discount: $10 per staffer
Laptop Discount: $5 per laptop
An open team of high school students who all attend the same school may also claim a $15 discount.
A solo college player not on an open team pays $15 to play.

If anyone is available to staff this tournament, please send me an e-mail around August at jacob.orourke.7@gmail.com, as I am in charge of collecting staff for this.

EDIT: Jared and I are co-directing, but please send your registrations to Jared. His e-mail is in the first post.

So the deal with open eligibility: you have to be in school if you want to play in this tournament. If you are a high school student who wants to play this tournament, you need to contact Jared at jwm7876@truman.edu to register and have a name, like Battle Hymn of the Tamil Tiger Mother.

To be absolutely clear: To offically register, email Jared. If you're a high schooler, those are the only open teams that we are allowing at this site.

EDIT: We are now going to allow any open teams as long as they are deemed to not be "super."

Myles, I've actually been meaning to get in contact with you. Can you send me an e-mail (I put it on the second post in this thread) or facebook message?

As for being on the house team, I don't think it should be a problem to make sure you get some time playing.

This tournament will be taking place in Baldwin Hall (location No. 9 on this map). We'll be meeting in Baldwin 176 in the morning and using the second floor for game rooms.

Wash U won the tournament in the first game of an advantaged final against the Battle Hymn of the Tamil Tiger Mother team. Max from Battle Hymn was the top overall scorer.

Stats will be available within the next week once our statsperson makes them available.

Stats are up on the link provided. Please let me know there are any errors, and I'll do my best to correct them. Note on the format: we ran a 9 team round robin because MO Valley and Mizzou had drivers get sick.

We also had the only game of our advantaged final get recorded. Once the last mirror of QUARK occurs and the guy who recorded it figures out how to put it on Youtube, I'll link to it here.
