Missouri Open - July 6th, 2013

Post by khrum »

Greetings, everyone! I’m excited to announce the 2013 Missouri Open, hosted by the University of Missouri. The main event of the tournament is an ACF Fall-difficulty set written primarily by me, with contributions from Charlie Dees and the University of Missouri Quizbowl Club. There will be a Charlie Dees-written side event available to play after the main event. The tournament will take place on July 6th.

Roughly 30% of the tournament has been written thus far, and it is on pace to be completed by late May. The tournament will feature thirteen 20/20 powermarked packets.

Eligibility: As with other open tournaments, this tournament is open to high schoolers, college players, and other interested parties alike.

Registration: If you would like to register a team to participate in the Missouri Open, please email me (Itamar Naveh-Benjamin) at itamar_naveh_benjamin@yahoo.com with "Missouri Open" in the subject line. Similarly, if you have any questions or concerns, feel free to email or PM me.

We are not setting a field cap on this tournament. If, however, we receive an unexpectedly high number of registrations, we will assess our staffing situation to make sure we can accommodate all interested parties.

Payment:
Base fee: $80
Working buzzer system: -$10
Travel discount: -$10 for traveling over 200 miles
Minimum fee: $60

Field:
Charles Hang (& potential buddies)
Remembrance of Things Past
Shady South Side
The Four Horsemen
Thomas Jefferson
Shady Pines Retirement Home
Tuscumbia(ish) #1
Tuscumbia(ish) #2
Asian Invasion

--

We hope to see you there!

- Itamar Naveh-Benjamin

I'm planning on coming and soliciting teammates.

EDIT: Dylan is my other teammate right now. Anyone who wants to join us should email or PM me (or just talk to me at Pre-Nats).

Should we perhaps set up a spreadsheet for forming teams for this?

And now we have our third registration from the team A Survey of the Works of Herbert from Family Guy -- I believe it will be led by the elusive Adam Sperber.

Our fourth registration came in from Shady South Side, a team that may or may not contain one or more Ben Zhangs.

I'm debating between declaring free agency (Team "Nigel Farage Stunt Doubles", anyone?) and volunteering as a staffer. I've mentioned the idea to Stephanie as well, so unless she stamps her foot and says no, I'd be a two-fer.

I agree that this tournament would be more interesting if it had more than four teams.

I've received word from about eight Hickman students who are going to play this, which constitutes at least two more teams!

I believe another Ladue team may also form.

I keep getting drawn to this thread...

Half my mind says - "Go play, you'll be free. Why not?"

The other half says - "What are you crazy? You haven't played since 1996. In Kentucky. On a team that finished 4th at Governor's Cup. You were a sub." So I may decide to help staff.

Is it possible to register a team still? I would like to register a team if it is possible. If there is an unfinished free agent team I would like to participate in that, if not, I can bring my own team. Also, I will need the location and details of the tournament. Interested in the side event as well. Thanks

Hi, Myles! It's certainly not too late to register a team - just email me at itamar_naveh_benjamin@yahoo.com with what you think will be the team roster, along with any information about discounts (if you're bringing a buzzer, etc.) We hope to see you at Missouri Open!

So, as stated before, I suck. But, I am bringing 2 sets of buzzers, and were I able to get some sort of free agent team put together, would be eligible for the discounts. So, if you've got $20, and don't mind sharing a table with a guy who last played during Clinton's first term, please pm me and we'll see if we can't get the field up to 10 teams.

David has graciously agreed to sign up as the tenth team, which he is naming "Better than a Bye." I'm going to cap the field off at ten teams. If people are still wanting to play, then feel free to contact teams that have free spaces on their teams.

Hopefully, your teammate(s) was/were emailed with this information, and ideally, they should have shared the email. If they have not, then show up by 9 and expect round 1 to start at 9:30.
