Three Trails V @ Fort Osage - Nov. 18, 2017

Post by Lakeland Scholar Bowl »

Fort Osage High School is pleased to announce the 5th annual Three Trails Tournament will be held on November 18th, 2017. This tournament will use the Maryland 2017 Fall set (a link to the question information is here:http://www.hsquizbowl.org/forums/viewto ... 09&t=19983) which will also be used on November 11 at Washington University-St. Louis and Nov. 18th at Centralia HS. Please ensure that you do not accept a bid to either of those tournaments if you plan to come to Fort Osage.

The Maryland set has 15 point "powers" for those who are correct on an early buzz. Consequently, we WILL have "powers" and 5 point "negs" for those who buzz in early and are incorrect.

We will divide the field into preliminary pools that will each play a round robin in the morning, after which teams will be rebracketed into playoff and consolation pools for the afternoon. After the playoffs, the top 2 teams could play a one or two game championship final depending on playoff standings. All teams will be guaranteed approximately 9 matches throughout the day (based on a targeted 18 team field). Round 1 will begin by 9 AM, and we anticipate finishing the afternoon rounds around 4 PM, with the top couple of teams potentially playing one or two more matches after that (as described above). In order to provide the best experience and maximum playing time to all participants, teams are expected to play ALL of their scheduled matches. Please be sure that you fully understand the time frame before registering.

We will be limiting teams to a maximum of 6 players, so if you have more players, we encourage you to sign up more than one team. We are limiting the field to 18 teams at this time, but that number could change based on interest.

Fees:
Base fee (first team from each school): $65
Second or subsequent teams: $60
Travel discount (100 miles or more one way, based on Google Maps): -$10
Buzzer discount (must work for 8 players, limit 2 per school): -$5
Staffer discount (up to the discretion of tournament organizer): TBD
Minimum cost (if multiple above discounts occur): $40

If you have any questions, please e-mail jmalecki@fortosage.net

Hope to see you at the Fort in November!!

This tournament received PACE Platinum Certification which means the top 25% of the field will qualify for the NSC in 2018 in Reston, Virginia.

Thanks to all who attended the Fifth edition of Three Trails!! Despite some last minute drops in moderators, we were able to complete 8 rounds for all teams. Thanks, to all of the Fort Osage staffers, especially Maya and Mickala, who did stats and kept me on track. Big thanks to Coaches Steve Moore, Tanya Stockwell, and Mikkel Bjornson who read on short notice!! Thanks also to scorekeepers from St. Pius X, NKC, and Belton High, as well as Grant Watkins Davis, my former student (and member of the 2013 PACE team), and Douglas McIntosh (a member of the 2017 HSNCT team), another former student.

Finally, massive thanks to Jeff Hill and Alex Smith, who always provide the most valuable assistance and counsel, especially on a day like Saturday.

St. Joseph Central A finished 1st at 8-0, followed by NKC A at 7-1, and Tuscumbia at 6-2. LS North and St. Pius X A round out the Top 5. All 5 of these teams should qualify for PACE.

Thanks again, and we'll return with our Novice FONS Tournament on Jan. 27th.
