We're moving the date of this tournament to December 16th. This will hopefully serve as a more convenient date for more schools. Also, here is a nifty map of northeast Missouri, with Louisiana highlighted. (I like to think of my town as the vertex of an isosceles triangle formed by itself, St. Louis...

I'm Brandon Moore, I play for Centralia. I enjoy quizbowl (obviously), specifically, learning about literature. I'm graduating in 2018, and I'm still not sure what college I want to go to. I'm also very involved in band, choir, and student council. Michael Powers is an inspiration and I am glad to ...

Re: MSHSAA State Records and Such

Ross' 34 tossups in Round 3 is also the highest known total for an individual in a single game, surpassing Michael Powers' 33 tossups in a game yesterday and Melissa's 29 tossups in a Class 3 game in 2002. I do, however, now hold a new record - the shortest time a MSHSAA record has been held before...

Ladue and Central placed the same as last year, as did Hallsville and TJ. Hickma...

Re: 14 tournament limit and Nationals

As an ambitious current player it infuriates me that a lazy, regressive organisation currently controls all quizbowl endeavours in the state I live in and they'd go to such lengths to hold down teams with hopes of becoming nationally competitive. It's also rather disappointing that they haven't reso...

Re: Mandatory recognition

Yeah, as Joe said, the extra time it takes moderators to recognize can actually be used to your advantage. Which is dumb. Because our conference duals are typically run with inexperienced/incompetent moderators, matches take anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour. According to my calculations, on avera...

Re: Mandatory recognition

I don't have a major issue with it other than that it adds additional time to matches (but it's a practically negligible amount of time). But really, the main issue is that I don't really see a clear point in its usage. If there is a reason MSHSAA enforces it, I would love to know. I think it's pret...

To be totally honest though, judging by the stats, I'd say our second place victory was a bit of a fluke, but I'm still really glad things worked out the way they did. At present I just have one rumination to include: There are a couple (I believe) juniors from Kirksville that could make an impact, Nick Maag and Tyler Findling. Claire Benevento showed some early signs of prominence leading their C team at OMAR last year. The three of them, plus anyone who is wait...
