Someone from Hallsville said "Dancing Queen" as well. Later on in the match, where you had to spell rottweiler, I missed it. I looked at the girl from Hallsville next to me and said, "I guess spelling German words is my Waterloo." And yes, she got the reference. That's only funny...

I also want to share this info that I got from Zach Dumey, a friend of mine that goes to Jackson (C4D1) "We beat the first three teams we play in the morning....[In championship rounds,] we barely beat our first team (20 points). Then we move on to our arch-rival, Cape. "In the second half...

Class 3 1. Savannah 2. Smithville 3. NMCC 4. Cape ND 5. Cuba Like the last poster, I'm just curious as to where my team <South Callaway> would fall here. We were 4th-place state last year. Our tougher district this year may be the factor? 7-1 conference duals record (one loss to Hallsville) 5-0 con...

You're right, that it's 6!/4. There are 6 letters, so its 6! for those. However, you have two Ms and two Os. A total of four letters that appear twice, therefore you divide by four.

I've been pretty behind on posting, but that's because I can never remember the exact scores, and I'd hate to post something wrong. We ended up conference champions, although it came down to the last question between us and Hallsville. We won, I believe, 250-235 or something similar to that. It was ...

There were two questions we got today at our conference tournament: Bonus: "I'll name 4 books by the same author. After the first one, you can guess for 20 points. After the second, 15 points. After the third, 10 points. And after the last one, 5 points." I don't remember all the books, bu...

David, Terin, and Woody are all great choices - David and Terin went to MSA with me this past summer, and I played against Woody's team at state. I couldn't really suggest anyone else, but a quick look at the top scorers from state last year and a comparison to who is predicted to win their district...

What qualifies as "academic competition?"
I don't think there should be a limit on the number of games, either. Having only 14 dates limits the experience one can get. With a higher amount, teams could play so many more games and get experience. Back to the original subject of this thread: My coach recently said that we could not play a gam...

Yes, but not only me. Lucas, Edward, and AJ also answered a lot of questions.ashkenaziCD wrote: "All the strong players from our district and state team"
Doesn't that imply you?
My main premise in that post was to show that our team is back, with all the same people that played at state.

Well, to bring this thread back to its original topic, I went to MSA this summer. It was amazing, and I really enjoyed it. One of my favorite parts was the scholar bowl tournament -- where I got beat by Savannah's Terin Budine and her house. And on the topic of standardized testing, I'm sitting on a...

In Class 3 District 4 (really the only one I know anything about), I'm hoping we (South Callaway) can win. Osage was victorious in the past, but all of the strong players from our district & state teams are back this year (we only lost one senior, who didn't even play at state). We got a new coa...

Yeah, I'm really going to push for the Helias tournament. Maybe the next year, we could try 2 or 3 tournaments, and gradually increase our amounts. We did schedule and host a county tournament last year...but the schools in our county aren't all that great (although New Bloomfield did go to state 2 ...

Yeah, I saw that mistake when we got to the state tournament last year. Hallsville is in southern Boone County, about 15-20 miles from Columbia at most. They beat us last year, although it was relatively close, I'm thinking around 175-130 or something similar (both times). Class & district? No c...

We're pretty picky about getting ourselves used to that rule, so even at all of our conference matches, we will not allow anyone to write on paper until the game begins.
We don't even hand out the paper until right before the moderator begins the first question.

OK. Let's go post-by-post and respond to these comments: I'm curious, what is the match format? Is it MSHSAA-style, NAQT style (I doubt it), half games, or something else? I know that most of the discussion on this forum tends to lie with larger, urban high school play and major tournaments. However, smaller schools need some recognition here, so I thought I would keep a thread of our HS team's scores just so you can see some smaller HS action. I'll update as we play ...

I voted no, they don't bother me as long as officially, each member is recorded under their actual name. During regular season play, I see no problem with an individual's nametag reading a nickname...along with their actual name. This will leave interpretations up to the moderator/recognizer as to w...

South Callaway 0 vs. Wright City 70 We got shut out badly lastnight. We're an extremely young team this year (only 4 seniors and 9 juniors)...our starting QB is a sophomore. We're also short on big guys to fill in our line. Wright City is good at intercepting our passes, but part of that I credit to...

South Callaway 19 vs. Winfield 34 We were ahead at the half and they came back to beat us in the fourth quarter. Thanks for the clarification, I just wasn't sure on what you were basing your decision on. I agree, this is not a tough district to win. And, I agree, that historically, Osage, Boonville, and SC are the only teams that have done anywhere near well at state since its establishment...considering if Os...

BTW, it's CallAway. With an A. Do we go to any tournaments?: No, unfortunately, we don't do any tournaments. We did host a county round-robin my freshman year (us, Fulton, North Callaway, and Jefferson City). We're very small (300 in the HS), so we don't get a big budget to go anywhere. We only play...

I won't pick a team yet, but I will give some top player predictions: Nate Kinast (TJI) Terin Budine (Savannah) John Ahlfield (Liberty) (note for that pick: his scores may not end up as high because his entire team is ultra good) Terin's a quiz bowl beast, that's for sure. Both she and I did Missou...

Grrr...School of the Osage. Our QB arch-rivals. My freshman year (04-05) they whooped us bad at the district championship match (like 375-80). My sophomore year (05-06), we hosted districts. They beat us in morning play, but not by so much. We both made it to afternoon play (along with Boonville and...
