Richland's dates have been added to the post above - thank you Coach Brown!

Are there any other known tournaments not listed above?

Hello Everyone!

Hancock High School in St. Louis County will be hosting our annual fall tournament on November 20th. This is the 5th year for our tournament and it continues to get bigger and better every year. Cost is $75 per team with discounts for providing buzzer /responder systems, distance of an hour or more traveled, and MACA membership. The state format will be used and the cost includes a copy of the questions.
We have had a fantastic turnout the past few years and hope for more of the same this year. If you are interested in participating, please respond via e-mail ASAP, as we expect to fill up quickly. I will then send you our information packet via e-mail. Thank you for your time and we hope to see you at Hancock in November.

The Resurrection Tournament will take place on April 24, at your nearest facsimile to Golgotha.

(Translation: in case anyone was wondering when Easter is next year, it's a solid two weeks after Districts, so no need to worry about it conflicting with pre-district run-ups)

Jeff, would it be feasible to Google-map each posted tournament, or at least list them by region (KC & the Northwest; St. Louis, Northeast; Capitol, CoMo & the Lakes; etc.)?

(edit) Sent a Google invite of a prototype map to Jeff.

I just got some dates for the Private Schools League. Apparently, they're splitting it into two divisions this year, a la Two Saints.

10/28 (Host = Villa)
11/4 (CBC)
11/11 (De Smet)
12/2 (Westminster)
12/9 (Chaminade)

I believe March 12 is the correct date for the NAQT tournament.

There were a lot more calendar dates distributed at the MACA convention yesterday but I don't have a copy of the sheet that was distributed. (Charlie, do you have it?) As soon as I get an updated list I will update the list above.

One thing that came up in the meeting (after Charles and Alex left) was the JV State date - they apparently selected March 12 because they weren't sure about when Easter was, but since Easter is April 24, April 2 is completely free for JV State. I mentioned this in the meeting (that I was pretty sure it was after Districts) so hopefully it will be on April 2. I will follow up to get an update on that.

Apologies for any fans of the Panthers, but:

Then again, it's faintly possible they weren't able to pick up any NAQT questions. 430 schools in Missouri playing in 64 districts, NAQT's bound to run out soon.

Either you or your coach (is it still Berkowitz?) should contact Coach Odzinski. Usually Kirksville doesn't start playing until after winter break.
As for Truman, I think they're busy preparing for their college tournament on Nov. 6, so any high school tournament wouldn't be on their mind until after then. One of their VPs is on the forum here, so you'll want to ask him shortly after that date.

I talked to a guy I know from Truman's team and they are looking at dates for Truman Bowl. It was scheduled the day Helias hosts their tournament, which they didn't realize, so they are moving it around.

Sam Berkowitz is no longer SC's coach. He retired at the end of 2009 season, but he still helps out with tournaments and is always there to give his advice to prospective students. Our coach is Mrs. Brassfield, she is the librarian and is doing a great job in her second year as a coach.

I don't coach at Cuba; their coach, Gary Durbin, has been coaching for well over 20 years. I played at Cuba back in the late 20th century. ;) I played four years at Cuba, four more at Rolla, then moderated statewide for another eight years before I moved to Ohio this summer for grad school. I have now officially been around longer than some players have been alive. That's a little scary.

Cuba is 20 miles from Rolla; I was on all four of their state championship teams in the mid-90's. Monroe City is 20 miles roughly west of Hannibal; I know Mr. Durbin is not considering going to that one. He won't go that far anymore. He's probably in his last year of coaching, and he can't even get players to commit. :(

Rock Bridge will NOT be hosting a Spring Varsity Tournament this year, per se. Instead, we'll be one of two sites hosting the State History Bee (Individual) and Bowl (6-person team) on March 12th at Rock Bridge HS. Winners can go to Washington, DC for Nationals.
See www.historybee.com for more details.

Another date to announce that won't interfere with the quiz bowl schedule, should anyone beside myself give a flying hoot:

The Nuptials Classic shall take place on 29 April at Westminster Abbey. It is not known whether Middletons will be allowed to field a side.

(Translation: royal wedding, 29 April – a Friday! – again, after districts. If it interferes with state or sectionals, let's send a picture of the happy couple to MSHSAA saying "your format sucks, Kate's dress doesn't!" :P )

For all you science fanatics out there, Science Knowledge Bowl is taking place on 19 February. As subject matter is limited to science, this tournament does not meet MSHSAA's definition of "electic" and thus doesn't count toward one of your 14 tournaments.

All of Missouri is covered by the Regional that takes place at Rockhurst University in Kansas City, Mo. More information on SKB at Rockhurst.

I am pleased to announce that Truman State University is planning on hosting our now annual high school tournament Truman Bowl the weekend of March the 26th. I realize there is a tournament scheduled in Lexington on that day as well, but their should not be much of an overlap in our draw pools. More information will be forthcoming as we approach the event. However, if you are interested in attending this tournament please feel free to let me know now. I will respond to questions on the boards or at my email which is jwm7876@truman.edu Thank you very much everyone and have a good day.

Sincerely,

Jared Truman State University 2013 President

Coach, it shouldn't be a real conflict. If you look at Truman's field last year, it was mostly teams from Jefferson City, Helias, Kirksville, and other parts of Northeast Missouri. Nobody from your drawing area really travels to Truman tournaments, so like the conflict with Lexington, I don't expect you will have any real problem filling your field, or if you do, it shouldn't be because of Truman.

Does anyone have any information about the Parkway tournament that is scheduled for next weekend? (January 15) I had received an email a while back, responded that we were interested in entering, and then deleted the email. I have received no more information since. (Not sure if this is Parkway West, Central, etc. either). I want to say that maybe the email was from a Paul Nelson? Maybe??

I was avoiding responding to this last time you posted about it for lack of more solid information, but I'll throw in what I know. Yes, there was a tournament originally (but unofficially) scheduled for January 15. And Paul Nelson could quite possibly have sent you an email about it (since he was supervising, if not in charge). I've been out of touch with Paul for a bit, but last I heard the tournament will not be held [at least not on the fifteenth of January] for multiple reasons (which I won't go into here, again for lack of 100% solid information).

I'm fairly positive about this (forgot to mention: I'm a former PCH quizbowler and was initially asked to help run the tournament), but my information may be slightly out of date.
*If Jeff or any other MOQBA people have more/better information about this, please chip in. I've kinda been out of the loop for a while now, unfortunately. Just didn't want to leave the question unanswered a second time.

My understanding is that there were objections to hosting the tournament on the same day as the nearby Washington tournament that ruled out January 15 as the date for the tournament.

Speaking of which, there are a bunch of tournaments that aren't in my list above that need to be added...

Does anyone have information for the Villa tournament on February 19? I searched my email and the boards, but couldn't find anything.

It is run on NAQT questions, and is an NSC and HSNCT qualifier.
To my knowledge, the field is filled, but they are looking at expanding.
(this gotten off the MOQBA website)

The reason I ask this is because I believe we registered for this tournament or at least expressed interest, but I have not received any information for it.

I would email the coach at Villa, since I don't think he posts here and he hasn't done anything to announce the tournament here.
