Second Annual MOQBA Singles Championship at MU (5/21/2011)
Hello,
I am pleased to announce that we will be bringing back the MOQBA Singles Championship this season, to be held immediately after the 2011 Pre-Nationals Tournament at the University of Missouri. This is a tournament where students play solo against each other in games that are 20 tossups long. Last year we had 16 players in the field and hope to match that number. This tournament will use questions from the Harvard Fall Tournament. The entry fee will be $8 per player. Because this event will only use tossups, it should run very fast. We hope to have it completed by no later than 6:30. Also, because MSHSAA jurisdiction only involves team-based events, this will not count towards a players' 14 tournament limit.
If you want to register or you have any questions about this event, please email me at CharlesDeesMOQBA@gmail.com.
I hope to see you here in May!

I can come. Out of curiosity, would you have the ability to expand the field to greater than 16? I'd love to see a few of my teammates compete too.

If we get a bunch of players signing up we would of course be willing to try and expand the field, since that would really be awesome. However, keep in mind that at a normal quizbowl tournaments, 8 players play at once in a room, whereas here 8 players requires 4 rooms, so this requires a lot of readers. We will try to meet the demand as best as we can.

I'll take the liberty to sign up Craig from Rock Bridge. I'll see what others want to to try.

Tim Cliffe from Oakville will also be competing.
EDIT: Tim Cliffe will NOT be competing. Communication error on our part.

Re: Second Annual MOQBA Singles Championship at MU (5/21/2011)
Congratulations to Jake Kimmerly from Parkview Magnet in Arkansas for his impressive performance today, winning the 2nd annual MOQBA Singles Championship over Sam Haynes by coming back from a disadvantage and winning both finals games, one in overtime and the other on the last tossup. Antonio Perilli from Heartland placed 3rd, and William Alexander from Eureka took 4th, all playing extremely well over the day.

Re: Second Annual MOQBA Singles Championship at MU (5/21/2011)
Oh hey, something cool to note:
MOQBA Singles Championship 2010:
Median score: 60.00 PPG
Mean score: 65.38 PPG
MOQBA Singles Championship 2011 (Neglecting out-of-state players.. sorry guys!)
Median score: 66.67 PPG
Mean score: 71.67 PPG
Isn't Harvard Fall Tournament harder than TJ's tournament last year as well? Considering the notable absence of many of our state's strongest players this year (Dylan, Sabrina, Craig, Ikshu, Max, Zev...) this kind of overall improvement appears to bode well for Missouri!
