St. Louis Regional National History Bowl & Bee- 1/26/13

Post by OakvilleHSCoach »

Oakville's History Bowl coach, Rodney Gerdes, asked me to post this announcement. Please contact him (see below) if you are interested in entering in NHBB on January 26.

When: January 26, 2013 (Saturday)
Where: Oakville High School

Oakville High School will host the St. Louis regional history bowl competition for the National History Bowl. The National History Bowl uses a quiz bowl style format to run their tournaments. Each state bowl will qualify a number of teams to participate in the National History Bowl to be held in Washington D.C. on April 27, 2013 (Saturday). You may register multiple teams and can register underclassmen as a JV or Varsity team.

Beginning this year it is possible to have Middle School Teams. We would like to have a full slate (at least 5 teams) competing at the middle school level. Please note that the National level History Bowl for middle schools will be held on a different weekend then the high school nationals. Please reference linked websites for more information

The state History Bee will be held in conjunction with the state History Bowl on January 26, 2013. Again, the state competition will qualify (in this case individuals) for participation in the National Bee to be held in Washington D.C. on April 28, 2013 (Sunday).

The registration deadline for the St. Louis regional bowl competition is January 24, 2013.

For more detailed information and to register, please visit the following websites:
National History Bowl: http://www.historybowl.com/
National History Bee: http://hs.historybee.com/

It would be wonderful if your team could bring a buzzer system to the competition at Oakville (you get a discount off of registration for this).

We look forward to hosting your teams in the St. Louis Regional Bowl competition of the National History Bowl.

The field above will be the field for today, barring any drops. This should be a competitive field and a great tournament!

I will post results for both the Bowl and Bee portions tonight, as long as I can remember them.

In the Bee portion of today's tournament, there were two divisions (JV and varsity). In JV, Michael Prablek of Ladue won, with Jake Tarr of Clayton coming in second. In varsity, Ben Zhang of Ladue won, while I came in second.

In the Bowl portion of the event, Ladue A defeated Clayton A in the finals. Oakville A and Clayton B were semifinalists.

Thanks to everyone who came out today and made the tournament a success!
