2014-15 CONFERENCE TOURNAMENTS

Post by L-Town Expatriate »

This thread will list conference tournaments for the coming year. There are (roughly) 74 activities conferences in the state; apologies for the string of posts that will follow. This information is far from complete (and at present far from accurate), with schools shifting conferences, adding/dropping programs, and of course who's reading what. To the surprise of few, some of these conferences will have no tournament in place let alone teams competing. (Also, some of these conferences might not have MSHSAA members.) Corrections and information will be welcome.

Conferences will be grouped in quote form:
Generic Missouri Conference wrote:Schools with teams (Schools without teams or not competing)
Date of tournament (range/series of dates if duals)
Host or organizer of tournament
Format: MSHSAA, National, other; whether tournament or duals
Question provider:
Additionally, if a thread is started where results are posted/discussed, I will include a link.

Here goes…

A correction to be made: At the present time South Callaway is a football-only affiliate for EMO, and competes in the Show-Me Conference in all other activities, including Scholar Bowl.

Another correction. All three Gateway Athletic Conferences compete together, and only 12 of the 17 schools sponsor quiz bowl. They are Fort Zumwalt North, Fort Zumwalt South, Francis Howell, Francis Howell Central, Francis Howell North, Holt, Orchard Farm, Timberland, Troy, Warrenton, Washington, and Winfield.

The date is 1/24/15 to be hosted at Orchard Farm using MSHSAA rules in a 5-game format identical to districts.

Yikes, eight teams go home after three games!? Any attempt to try and establish a better method?

I've updated both entries. After tomorrow's MACA meeting, I'll go through and add in what I've found out about various conference tournaments.

(EDIT) Have Wentzville Liberty joined a conference yet?

We can talk at the meeting tomorrow if you'd like.

They only have freshmen and sophomores this year. They'll likely have a team next year in the GAC. All of their athletic teams are in the GAC North for now, but that will probably change when they have all four grades.

Assuming this hasn't changed since I was in high school, GVC scholar bowl consists of three separate six-team round-robin tournaments using half-format MSHSAA games. First place in an individual tournament nets a school five points, second place is three points, third place is two points and fourth place is one point. Overall placing is awarded based on cumulative score after the third round-robin. I have no idea what they'd do if they ended up in a tie.

Were the round-robins once a month or over three consecutive weeks?

If this setup adopted NAQT format, it might serve as a brilliant barometer for teams having trouble getting into tournaments.

Roughly once a month. If memory serves correctly tonight I think the meets were typically in December, January and March. One of them was usually on held a Saturday morning and the other two were on Monday nights.

Clarence Cannon Conference tournament took place March 28th at South Shelby High School in Shelbina. Seeding was based on regular season matchups and broke down evenly: Brookfield, Centralia, Monroe City, Macon, Clark County, South Shelby, Highland, Louisiana, Palmyra. Louisiana and Palmyra's make-up match Thursday to determine who had what seed in their play-in game this morning.

Play-in game:
9. Palmyra def. 8. Louisiana, 320-240

Palmyra became the eighth team in the playoffs.

Round One:
1) Brookfield def. 9) Palmyra 490-50
2) Centralia def. 7) Highland 510-200
3) Monroe City def. 6) South Shelby 340-240
5) Clark Co. def. 4) Macon 380-210

Lunch was after round one. Teams that lost in round one were then placed in a knockout bracket for the consolation plaque. The four winners were then in the semifinals.

Round Two:
1) Brookfield def. 5) Clark Co. 470-290
2) Centralia def. 3) Monroe City 380-360
4) Macon eliminated 9) Palmyra 250-240
6) South Shelby eliminated 7) Highland 330-140

Consolation: South Shelby def. Macon 250-230
3rd Place: Monroe City def. Clark Co. 350-320
Championship: Brookfield def. Centralia 380-340

Brookfield finish the CCC season with a perfect 11-0. Their JV also won their bracket, defeating South Shelby.

Re: 2014-15 CONFERENCE TOURNAMENTS

I don't have all the scores yet, but Fayette won the Lewis & Clark title on Saturday with a 4-0 record. I'm presuming that Paris was second and Marceline was third. This post will be edited as I receive more information.

(EDIT) Yes it was Fayette first, Paris second, Marceline third. Salisbury beat Westran for fourth. Fayette scored at least 300 in each of their games.

Tuscumbia won the Show-Me Conference middle school tournament today. Eugene was second and Fatima was third; New Bloomfield, Chamois, St. Elizabeth, and South Callaway also participated. The tournament was double elimination. I only have scores from Tuscumbia's games:

Tuscumbia 370, Fatima 170
Tuscumbia 380, Eugene 120
Tuscumbia 300, Eugene 250

Tri-County Conference North tournament was today at Linn County, outside Purdin. It was a true double-elimination tournament - even the loser of the 8-9 play-in game was sent to the losers bracket.

Green City went undefeated to win the high school title. They narrowly defeated Linn County for the title. Bevier was third, ending their two-year reign as conference tournament champs. Novinger (who came into today as the undefeated regular season champs) was fourth.

In the junior high bracket, Meadville was undefeated heading into the final with Novinger. Earlier in the day Meadville had defeated Novinger, but Novinger were able to force a second game. Meadville handily won the final game 380-200 to claim the conference title. Brashear was third and Atlanta fourth.

Tri-Rivers Conference duals wrapped up last week. North Shelby went 5-0 to win the title. Knox County was second at 4-1.

Their quasi-conference tournament was March 21st at Scotland County. For the fourth straight year, former Tri-Rivers member Clark County swept through the field, including a close win over North Shelby in the finals.

Next year will be the final year for the Tri-Rivers, as Milan & Putnam County defect to the Grand River Conference, and Knox, Schuyler & Scotland are absorbed into the Lewis & Clark Conference. North Shelby is expected to become an independent.

I guess this fits here: The Show-Me Conference also hosts an elementary knowledge bowl, which this year went pyramidal. Each grade competes separately. Format is double-elimination.

Results from said tournament this year, which was on March 17:

3rd Grade: 1st Chamois, 2nd South Callaway, 3rd Eugene
4th Grade: 1st Fatima, 2nd Russellville, 3rd Chamois
5th Grade: 1st Tuscumbia, 2nd Eugene, 3rd Fatima
6th Grade: (1st/2nd game btw. Fatima and Eugene, not sure who won), 3rd Linn

Overall winner of the traveling trophy for the year was Fatima.
