2019 Missouri Fall Academic Tournament (MFAT)

Post by sportsrainman »

Hello Everyone,
The University of Missouri Quizbowl Club is pleased to announce the 12th annual edition of the Missouri Fall Academic Tournament(MFAT) will take place Saturday October 19th, 2019.

Club President Dinis Trindade and myself will be serving as tournament Co-
directors.

We have secured NAQT’s IS-Set#188.

The tournament will be in 20/20 format. We will be using 15 point powers and we will be using 5 point negs. There will also be no bounce-backs at this tournament.

We will give out trophies to the top 4 teams, and if there is a large enough contingent of small schools, we will also present an award to the top-placing small school. We will base the small school judgement on NAQT’s definition found here:
https://www.naqt.com/hs/small-school.html#public
The number of bids for SSNCT will be based upon how many teams register. Teams eligible for SSNCT Open may receive an SSNCT bid, but will be ineligible for the small school title.

There will be a maximum of 6 players on each team roster. If you would like to bring more players, please do not hesitate to sign up multiple teams in order to get the maximum amount of experience for your players.

The field will initially be capped at 24 teams, with a waitlist forming for further interest. Registration will be on a first come, first serve basis, and if teams are to drop, teams will be chosen off the waitlist in the order of their registration. If the field fills, we will be able to guarantee teams 10 games, providing a significant amount of early season experience. In addition, the top 15% of teams will qualify for the 2020 High School National Championship Tournament in Atlanta. The top teams will also receive a bid to 2020 PACE NSC, with details dealing with how many teams will qualify being available at a later date.

While this field is initially capped at 24 teams, we hope to expand once we can guarantee we have enough staffers to support a larger field.

Fee Structure:
$70 per team
Buzzer system discount*: -$5 per system per team, up to $20 off.
Staffer discounts: -$5 per team that brings a scorekeeper, and -$15 for each experienced moderator a team brings. This can be a coach, parent, or any other person attending who isn’t playing. We will provide the scorekeeper with a lunch. For both the staff discounts, we need to know about your plans to bring staff before the tournament, and we reserve the right to not take you up on your staff and their discount.

Registration:

To register, please contact the club at mizzouquizbowl@gmail.com, with your school name, along with the number of teams, buzzers, and staffers you plan on bringing. Registration will be on a first-come, first-serve basis. We will email all of the coaches to ask for rosters around a month before the tournament.

The tournament will be held in Strickland Hall. We will begin registration at 8:15 and would like all teams to be in Strickland by 8:45. We will then begin playing at 9:00AM.

We hope to see you all on October 19th for what is sure to be a fun as well as a quality tournament early in the season. For any questions don’t hesitate to contact us at mizzouquizbowl@gmail.com.

And with that, the initial field is full! We will start a waitlist and will notify everyone if we decide to expand.

I'm not seeing the start time and approximate end time for this tournament? Is it posted somewhere?

We do ask that all staffers and moderators bring a laptop and charger, as we will be distributing the packets digitally.

This tournament has been deemed PACE Platinum Certified, so the top 25% of teams have qualified for PACE NSC.
