2020 MACA JV State (3/7/2020)

Post by Hallsville Coach »

The Missouri Academic Coaches Association (MACA) is pleased to announce that it will be hosting this year's JV State tournament on March 7th at Helias High School. This tournament is open to ALL freshmen and sophomore players (NO juniors or seniors).

Format:
Games will consist of 20 tossups worth ten points each, followed by three-part non-rebounding bonuses worth up to thirty points. Tossups will include powers but NOT include negs. The question set being used for the tournament is SCOP Novice 10. This set has been used at Oakville and North Kansas City so if you attended one of those tournaments you will not be able to compete in this one.
We anticipate using two full round robins in the morning and afternoon with an advantaged final to decide the champion depending on the number of teams registered.
Plaques will be awarded to the top two overall finishers and the top two small schools (under 500 enrollment in grades 10-12, public, non-selective). Large and small schools will play in the same division.

Fees:
Base fee (first team from each school): $75 (teams will receive a $15 discount if they provide a scorekeeper or moderator)
Second or subsequent teams: $55
Buzzer discount (must work for eight players; limit two per school): -$5
Minimum entry fee: $20

To register, please e-mail me at sallen@hallsville.org to reserve your spot. Please include number of teams, buzzers, moderators and scorekeepers in your email. We look forward to seeing you in March.

By Saturday we were down to 16 teams from an original 28 teams (Flu and basketball took a heavy toll this year) that participated in the JV State tournament. After the preliminary rounds, Washington A, Hallsville A, CIS A and Rock Bridge all qualified for the playoffs. At the end of the playoffs, Washington A defeated CIS A in the first game of an advantaged final to claim the JV State championship with Hallsville A placing third and Rock Bridge fourth. Hallsville A was also the highest finishing small school so they took 1st in the Small School Division.
I would like to thank the many volunteers that helped staff this event: Shelley Swoyer, Ginger Luetkemeyer, Samuel Luetkemeyer, Jacob O'Rourke, Nick Reed, Lisa McClary, Madalynn Berkey, Gabe Borgmeyer, Molly-Paige Jones, Grace Hauptmann, Grace Herbold, Ralph Waltz, Andrew Boyle, Colton Hough, Kyle Mesmer and Emma Crocker. I would also like to thank the wonderful people at Helias High School for allowing the coaches association to use the facilities for this event. I can't thank all of you enough for the amazing job you did. It was another successful JV State Tournament and am already looking forward to next year's.
