Kirksville's solid performance throughout the day propelled the Tigers to a 10-0 record, including victories of 350-150 and 320-130 over Palmyra A in the best-of-three finals that started with their scheduled Round Nine match. While finishing second, Palmyra had the top individual scorer in Mason Mitchell, with 74.3 points per game. Mexico A finished third with their victory over Washington B.
Stats: CombinedPrelims

Our event would not have been possible without the willingness of our tournament staff to spend their Saturday with us: Louis Schnoebelen from Fulton, Malia Jolly from Louisiana, Sandy Werr from North Shelby, Angel Young from Washington, community members Brian Baker, Dale Schenewerk Sr and Andrew Seal, and MHS staff, students and alumni including Walter Hollis, Ted Martin, Liz Seal, Julie Tucker, and Lindsey Yancey. Again I am most appreciative of the eagerness of MHS Coach Dale Schenewerk to host a tournament this year, and the willingness of MHS principal Brad Ellebracht, activities director Travis Blevins, and superintendent Dr Zachary Templeton to support this program and playing opportunities for teams in northeast and central Missouri.

For years, I have quoted the words of my late freshman journalism adviser at the end of tournaments I've staffed: "Be Safe! Be Smart!" Sadly it is looking like efforts to decrease the spread and severity of the global Covid-19 pandemic will likely bring about an early end to our quiz bowl season. As "social distancing" becomes the norm for the spring, I am hopeful that we are all safe and smart over the next several weeks as this society-defining situation plays out. When playing opportunities resume, and I'm hopeful that it's this fall if not sooner, I look forward to seeing all of your teams in action.

Until then: Good Night, and Good Luck.
