CIS Big Cat Middle School Tournament 10/30/21

Hello coaches and players,

I am pleased to announce the return of the in-person Big Cat Middle School tournament at Columbia Independent School on Saturday, October 30, 2021. Students in grades 7-8 are eligible to play. If we need to switch to online play, we’ll use either Google Meet or Zoom.

We will be using NAQT’s Middle School-39 set. This will be a nationals qualifying tournament. As of this posting, there are no other tournaments in Missouri using this set.

The field will most likely be capped at 24 teams (no more than six players on a team, please). Play will begin at 9 a.m. and we hope to finish around 4 p.m. Please arrive by 8:30 a.m. The exact format will be determined after the number of teams has been finalized. Expect to play at least 8 rounds and stay for the entire tournament regardless of performance.

Each game will consist of twenty tossups and up to twenty bonuses. We will use powers, but no penalties for incorrect tossups (negs). Bonuses will rebound (unless we have to go online).

The fee structure is as follows:

Base fee: $70 per team
Additional team from each school: $60 per team
Buzzer discount: -$5 per system, limit 4
Scorekeeper discount: -$15
Moderator discount: -$15 for experienced moderators
