2024 WACC @ SIUE-January 20, 2024 (CANCELED)
Posted: Fri Oct 06, 2023 9:17 pm
On behalf of the SIUE Cougars Quiz Bowl team, I am pleased to announce WACC (Winter Academic Competition hosted by the Cougars), a regular season high school tournament that will be held on January 20th, 2024 on the campus of Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville, Illinois.
We will be mirroring CARD, a regular difficulty high school set. More information on the set and its distribution can be found here:
https://hsquizbowl.org/forums/viewtopic ... 96#p396896
Fees
$80 for the first team
$70 for every subsequent team from the same school
-$5 for a working buzzer set
Payment can be made by check and can be made out to "SIUE." If you need an alternate form of payment, please let us know!
Field
We will be soft-capping the field at 18 teams, but we will expand based on available staffers and room availability.
Location
All games will take place in Peck Hall on the campus of SIUE. The address for SIUE is 1 Hairpin Dr., Edwardsville, IL 62026
Rules
This tournament will be 4 v. 4. We will be implementing 15-point powers, -5-point negs, and NO bouncebacks on the bonus. We will be using NAQT timing, which will be 3 seconds to give an answer on a tossup, 3 seconds for teams to answer after a tossup is completely read, and 5 seconds to give an answer on a bonus, with a prompt at 4 seconds.
Team captains do not have to give all answers on the bonus. Anyone on the team may give an answer as long as it is directed toward the moderator.
It is important that each team has an adult chaperone or coach to travel with each team to their game rooms for the day!
Parking
Aside from student housing, most of the campus lots are free to park in on the weekend. We ask that teams park in Lot A on campus. There is plenty of room for teams traveling by bus to park larger vehicles in Lot A.
Lunch
For lunch, the nearby Morris University Center (around a two-minute walk from Peck Hall) has a variety of options including Chick-fil-A, Burgers, Pizza, a full-service salad bar, quick-service deli options, and Starbucks. Teams are also welcome to order from various options in Edwardsville, including Jimmy John's, Papa John's, and Dominos, which all deliver to campus. Teams are also welcome to bring their own lunches as well!
Registration
To register, please get in touch with us at siueqb@yahoo.com
This tournament has been approved by the MSHSAA and is now listed as a sanctioned event
We hope to see you in January!
